“Fly Boys” by James Bradley

I recently finished reading a war novel about WW2 fighter pilots titled, “Flyboys”. This was a look into the pilots that were ordered to take out communication towers on Chichi Jima, an island not far away from Iwo Jima. George Bush Sr. was one of the pilots that was shot down, but later rescued.
This book was written very well. Its facts were clearly defined and biases were for the most part, left out. It showed a clear understanding of the implications of war, and what that does to people on both the winning, and losing end. What struck me most was the history that Bradley brings forth which is not taught to young American students in the school system.
As the U.S. government continues its tradition of maintaining and growing its empire, this book shows the country’s attitude when a people on the other side of the globe were considered ‘less human’. Nonetheless, the Japanese created their own chaos slaughtering the Chinese people and were responsible for many autrocities.
